Ongoing projects

The President of our Academy, dr Predrag Stamenković, and the Head of the ASSJS International Cooperation Team, dr Đorđe Miltenović, paid a working visit to the partner institution from France (Aix-Marseille Université - AMU) within the framework of the MASSTER project.

As the Erasmus+ MASSTER project enters its third year of implementation, the recent study visit to the historic University of Marseille, Aix-Marseille Université - AMU, was extremely important for defining the dynamics of implementing work packages in the final year of the project, as well as for reviewing the work completed so far during the meeting of the project’s steering committee.

During several days of intensive engagement, knowledge exchange, and strategic discussions, the MASSTER project team had the opportunity to review the results generated by the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) platform and to present suggestions and observations for further improvement of this platform in order to achieve the project’s objectives. Final versions of the MASSTER courses from the MOOC platform will be published on the MASSTER project website: www.masster-project.de.

The project team also agreed on the development of an alumni tracking tool (alumni tracker) for partner universities from Senegal and South Africa, using software acquired through the MASSTER project. This represents a highly significant result for developing early-warning mechanisms related to the so-called „brain drain“ from these two African countries.

Our hosts from the University of Marseille organized study visits to the participatory farm in Gardanne (Ferme Participative de Gardanne) and the Galinière winery (Château de la Galinière), where we had the opportunity to taste their renowned wines.

Many thanks to our host from the University of Marseille, Fidelija Ibekwe, for the warm welcome and excellent organization.

The Academy of Southern Serbia, in partnership with the Western Balkans Institute – WEBIN, is proud to announce that it has become a partner in the new Erasmus+ project REbATE (Rollout of Ecosystem-based Adaptation in Threatened Environments), in collaboration with higher education institutions from Germany, Seychelles, Mauritius, and Madagascar.

The project focuses on key areas such as social entrepreneurship, sustainable practices in the agri-food sector, and women's leadership in the circular economy (CE), ensuring that these efforts are inclusive, equitable, and transformative. Ultimately, the REbATE project aims to promote long-term sustainability, resilience, and gender equality in the Indian Ocean islands, contributing to the global movement for sustainable development and aligning with the EU’s Green Agenda vision of harmonizing economic prosperity with environmental stewardship.

The total value of the REbATE project is EUR 400,000.

As the Erasmus+ MASSTER project approaches its halfway point, a recent study visit to the historic University of Naples "Federico II" (Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II) in Naples, Italy, marked a key moment for reflection, collaboration, and renewed momentum.

Hosted by one of the oldest and most prestigious academic institutions in Europe, this visit brought together project partners to assess progress, align visions, and prepare for what lies ahead. Over several days of intensive engagement, knowledge exchange, and strategic discussions, one thing became clear: the effort is paying off.

Each partner’s contribution is like a piece of a mosaic – complex on its own, but together forming a clearer picture. From capacity-building sessions to field insights, the visit to Naples revealed a project deeply rooted in collaboration, innovation, and regional impact.

As we enter the second half of MASSTER, our path forward is clearly defined. With shared determination and a sharper focus, we continue turning challenges into learning, ideas into action, and partnerships into lasting change.

A heartfelt thank you to our hosts at the University of Naples "Federico II" for their warm hospitality and excellent organization. Forward – with purpose, clarity, and the power of collaboration.

The Tempus Foundation has announced the selection results for mobility project applications in the field of higher education between EU member states and third countries associated with the Program (KA131-HED).

Our Academy has implemented a large number of student, teaching, and non-teaching staff mobilities in recent years, significantly enhancing its capacities. During this period, a considerable number of incoming mobilities of esteemed colleagues from abroad have also been realized.

By participating in this program and the 2024 call, and through the implementation of mobilities with our partners abroad, we continue to strengthen our partnership network and improve the human resources of our higher education institution.

The Academy of Southern Serbia is a partner in a three-year Erasmus project implemented under the Capacity Building in Higher Education program. For the first time, our institution and its staff will take on the role of knowledge providers, working to build the capacities of other higher education institutions with the goal of enhancing sustainable economic development in the African region.

The project is coordinated by the University of Weidenbach (Germany), with academic partners from Europe including the University of Naples (Italy), the University of Marseille (France), and our own Academy of Southern Serbia (ASSJS) from Serbia. They will collaborate with universities from Senegal and the Republic of South Africa on this project.

ASSJS at the MASSTER project Kick-off meeting in Triesdorf, Germany

Dr. Predrag Stamenković, President of the Academy, and Dr. Dragan Stojanović, Assistant to the President, participated in the MASSTER project Kick-off meeting as representatives of the project partners. The meeting was organized by the project coordinator, the University of Applied Sciences in Triesdorf, Germany.

The Kick-off meeting brought together 13 partners from Europe and Africa with the aim of starting the implementation of project activities through the formation of project teams and defining initial project tasks.

The MASSTER project (Managing (South) Africa and Senegal Sustainability Targets through Economic-diversification of Rural-areas) focuses on achieving sustainability goals in South Africa and Senegal through economic diversification of rural areas.

The President of our Academy, Dr. Predrag Stamenković, and the Head of the International Cooperation Team of ASSJS, Dr. Đorđe Miltenović, paid a working visit to partner institutions in South Africa within the MASSTER project.

The University of the Free State (UFS) and Stellenbosch University (SU) in South Africa hosted a group of distinguished international partners, including our Academy, as part of the MASSTER project (Managing (South) Africa and Senegal Sustainability Targets through Economic-diversification of Rural-areas). Funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union (Project ID 101129023), the project aims to support the agrotourism sector in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and Senegal by addressing urgent issues such as rural migration, food security, and sustainable development.

Launched in early 2024, the MASSTER project is an ambitious initiative designed to enhance the development of agrotourism and economic diversification in rural areas across SSA, with a particular focus on Senegal and South Africa. Analyzing the current situation, it is evident that agriculture plays a vital role in these regions, contributing up to 40% of GDP and providing livelihoods for over 70% of the population. However, challenges such as rural-urban migration and underutilized agricultural potential hinder the growth of this key sector. By offering innovative training and educational tools in this interdisciplinary field, the project aims to bridge these gaps. It involves higher education institutions (HEIs) in community development and focuses on the intersection of agriculture and migration. In doing so, MASSTER contributes to key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including zero hunger, quality education, decent work, and economic growth.

The MASSTER project brings together a diverse consortium of partners from Senegal, South Africa, and Europe, including:
